In their own words

  • The Chamber of Marine Commerce (CMC) is calling for: Expansion of CBSA container clearance services to additional Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway ports to unlock trade and supply chain capacity. Regulatory and policy adjustments allowing inland and regional ports to process international containers directly, removing current bottlenecks. Federal investment and operational commitment to support this CBSA expansion, an initiative that would rapidly repay itself and strengthen national trade resilience.
  • Pilotage Act and associated regulations, including the Atlantic, Laurentian, Great Lakes and Pacific Pilotage Authority Regulations and the General Pilotage Regulations, with respect to tariff setting, compulsory pilotage areas, certification requirements, and service standards affecting marine transportation efficiency and competitiveness.
  • Federal infrastructure and trade corridor programs, including the National Trade Corridors Fund and related supply chain resilience initiatives, with respect to funding eligibility, modernization of marine infrastructure, and support for Canada’s marine transportation system.
